Stanley Park Wedding ~ Eri & Michael

Several year ago I was contacted out of the blue by a lovely couple from Tokyo Japan. They asked if I would be coming to Japan anytime in the future, and if I was, could they please book me for a couples shoot in the streets of Tokyo! Flash forward a few months, and I was on my way to Tokyo to meet them!

Eri and I have kept in touch since then, but I didn’t expect that in mid March 2017, I would get a message from Eri asking if I can help her plan a wedding in Australia in just 8 weeks! At the end of April I picked up Eri from Hamilton Train Station in Newcastle and we made our way back to my house to spend a few days pulling together the finishing touches for the wedding which was to be held at Stanley Park on the 4th May (International Star Wars Day, so a Star Wars nerd such as myself had a few things up my sleeve). Michael was to arrive in Australia with the rest of the family members and guests ¬†coming from Japan and England the day before the wedding.

The wedding day was absolute perfection! Eri was so full of smiles and happiness in her stunning Vera Wang gown, and Michael was looking handsome in his suit. The ceremony took place in front of a breathtaking giant floral heart under the shade of Stanley Park’s beautiful fig tree. Eri said her vows in both English and Japanese so all guests could understand. After the ceremony, everyone moved to the waterfront to have a delicious banquet of foods under the fluttering paper cranes and hanging photos. The reception even had a flashmob organised by Eri’s family members.

As the sun started to lower in the sky, we started our portrait session around the beautiful grounds of Stanley Park. We then jumped in the car and made our way off to the Stockton Sand Dunes. I knew it would be a spectacular sight for them, as theres definately no giant sand dunes in Tokyo City! While we were here, I busted out some smoke bombs and light sabers, because you cant get married on May the Fourth without a Star Wars Photo!

After we finished on the dunes, we went back to Stanley Park to pack up Eri and Michael’s stuff (while Eri ran around in her underwear to have a break from the heavy gown bahahaha) and then I took them back into their accomodation in Newcastle, but not before stopping for a last backlit night time photo in an alleyway in Newcastle!

I feel so honoured to have been asked by Eri and Michael to help them pull together suppliers and their vision to create their dream wedding day in Australia!
